Today I'm an indie with a day off! I had to handle some business on behalf of mon petit -- my son (...please excuse my fits of franglais.)
Anyhow, since I'm home, le husband and I were talking about vision and confidence, but balls makes a much more interesting blog title :) I thought about a PhD friend who credits having vision as part of her success and I took to google to do a quote search. Little hint..."vision and balls" doesn't yield a whole lot outside of sports.
As for me, I've been a wannabe fulltime independent business owner for a few years. I've tried this and that...blogged about that and this for a long time because I heard it was good to do and I liked it too. I had heart, I had drive, I had advice, even had a tiny li'l bit of success BUT (yep, big ol' but) no clear vision to see me to that ultimate goal. And truth, as I see it, be told vision without balls (or ovaries in my case) doesn't yield a whole lot either.
Why? Because when no one else believes in you, vision and balls will keep you moving. When good enough gets comfy or you start to wonder if maybe you aren't meant to be among the lucky ones...vision and balls will get you to push yourself and work harder for your dreams. Also, when people start asking you to make them leggings when you clearly print t-shirts ('cause you know, you're an artist)...vision and balls will help you to say...Nope...and keep it moving.
So now I have the vision...a sweet sweet shop and a blog to help and inspire other indie withs like me. And the balls (you know...ovaries) to feel strong and capable to push through the snugliness of complacency and believing in myself regardless of others' expectations. I'm jazzed :D
So if I were to sum this up in a google searchable quote, I'd say this:
"You need clarity of vision to let you to know where you are going and balls (ovaries) to keep your eyes on the prize and get you there."
